2017 – A Successful Season

Before we launch into the 2018 season, it is worth reflecting on last season. We fielded three men’s Saturday league teams, playing in Divisions 1, 3 and 7 of the West Sussex Invitational Cricket League. The First Eleven came second, and following the league restructure this winter, secured their position in the new Sussex Cricket League Division 4 West. The Second and Third Elevens, whilst having challenging seasons, were not relegated, and this year will be playing in Division 7 West and Division 10 North West respectively. We also ran two Sunday friendly sides giving opportunities to up and coming players and Colts, and those not wanting the pressure of league cricket, a chance to play senior cricket. The Women’s Eleven entered the Whitehorn League and the Sussex Foundation T20, and the team continues to improve and looks forward to the forthcoming season. The U19’s team entered the NatWest T20 Cup and narrowly missed reaching the County Final’s Day. The three Colts sides, U14’s,...

Tony Adfield

It is with great sadness that we must report that our former President, Tony Adfield passed away last night. Tony was a very long serving and dedicated member of the Cricket club and his contribution over the years has been immense. He fulfilled numerous different offices on the committee including in recent years as president which was a source of great pride. Tony’s health had been declining for a number of years but he was still dedicated supporter of our teams and was almost always there on match days to support the club. Tony will be greatly missed by all. Further details relating to funeral arrangements will be posted in due course....

A June Preview

A June Preview - from the Chairman of Cricket The season is well underway now and it’s time to take a breath and look forward to events in June. T20 is definitely the theme with the White Hart Cup kicking off on the 7th June, more Dutch tourists, the VRA Club arriving on the 15th June and the WSICL Cup and Plate first rounds happening on Sundays later in the month. On the 23rdJune we also have our sponsors match versus the White Hart and the u19s even get underway on Tuesday the 27th at home to St Peters. All events to be supported as much as played in. Tom Paine , with a helping hand from Kev Thorns is looking after the VRA match where the early signs are that ‘participation’ will be more important than ‘competitiveness’. A suitable Henfield XI is being assembled. We are well versed in the needs of the White Hart Cup where we have new opposition in...

A Call to Arms

This is an informal message from the top, a short exercise in raising awareness of our cricket commitment’s early this summer and appealing for your support. I finish with a competition. Cricket seems to be getting ever harder to make happen. It only happens with a collective will, a team approach and support for the various people trying to lead within the club. The cricket committee – the selection committee, have gone to enormous efforts these early weeks to get league and Sunday sides out, this Saturday the first after the end of the local football season we had 10 league cricketers not available! Sundays especially though are proving a problem. More here later. My huge thanks go to all those plugging the gaps. This also shows our resilience as a club, we do have increasing competition for places fellas and I fore see some uncomfortable selection decisions ahead once availability settles. Full commitment will be essential in anyone seeking to play...
